And so the draw is made, the fixtures can start to settle ever so slightly.
Sparta Prague it is, then, as the Champions League Qualifying stages were drawn last night. Our first match is the wednesday after the Fulham game, away in Prague. Liverpool were drawn away to Toulouse, and Celtic away to Spartak Moscow. After our trivails there last season, the Bhoys will need as much luck coming their way as they can get.
Wenger was peppy after the draw was announced, and he believes Arsenal’s chances of going through are good. He said “I feel Sparta Prague has two advantages for us. Firstly it is not too far. Secondly we are likely to play [the first leg] on the Wednesday and it could have caught us to play on the Tuesday“.
Unfortunately, it’s another criminally short blog, due to my having to run off and be a groomsman to a highschool mate of mine in…what, 10 minutes? Bendtner believes he has a bigger role to play in the Arsenal team, and I have to say his ego is a little infectious, particularly for his age. With him and Eduardo, the striking options have taken on a different sheen from yesteryear, so perhaps it’s cause for excitement.
Not so much on the Adebayor front, though – Ade’s going to miss one or two of the opening games, it seems. It will be good to have him back soon, though. Until (if) Eduardo settles in, Adebayor and van Persie are still first option, for me.
Expect a feature soon, one on the Pre-Season prospects, post-Ajax, and one on the conundrum of Hleb’s perfect role. Until such times…
