Third-Gen Blog of the Week is: Goonerholic

botwA704The inaugural winner of Third-Gen’s Arsenal Blog of the Week is announced - Goonerholic scoops the prize for his efforts from last week.

The award goes his way after some excellent tracking of the Setanta Sports and Arsenal TV debacle, after the channel stumbled over a major botch up in Premier League television rights. Many Gooners are still reading up on the progress being made, given the subscriptions many of us pay.

Goonerholic also wrote a lovely article on one Billy McCullough, a former Arsenal left-back who plied his trade in the late fifties and early sixties. ‘holic’s ‘maturing age’ allows him an almost unparalleled reminiscing talent over many other blogs, and serves Arsenal’s history to fans as a real, living and breathing thing for us to enjoy.

Other blogs worthy of note from the past week have been Goodplaya, who wrote some excellent articles on Gael Clichy and Mathieu Flamini, as well as providing some photos from the stands which give a little different perspective of the players. Arseblog continues his fantastic work with the Arsecasts as usual, which given the quality of the production, draws fans and bloggers together in a rather sumptuous fashion.

Good choice, also not surprised to hear that ‘he’s a bloody nice fellow to boot’ he comes across that way on his blogs.

Hadn’t checked out his page before so youer idea is working Jammathon. Might just start reading his page instead of yours now…

You tread on thin ice, Eboue. :p

Your thoughts are all appreciated muchly, everyone. Goonerholic as already remarked on Arseblog being owed quite a lot for bloggers’ inspiration, and considering the standard he sets, it would not be surprising to see him get it sooner rather than later. Subjective as it all is, the award just focuses on work bloggers do in the most recent week - shedding new light on stories, controversial and/or well thought opinions…that kind of thing.

Again, hit me with a couple of bricks, please. I’m a glutton for punishment.

Do you think you’ll ever award it to yourself?

  6. 6 jammathon February 4, 2008 at 11:47 pm

No. I thought that was always implied.

Yeah, I think it was. I just enjoy giving myself awards and figured others do too. Among the awards I have garnered recently are: Can-opener operator of the Month, Termite Hater of the Decade, and Blog-reader of the week.

Thanks a lot Jammathon. There are a lot of good sites out there providing great material for all gooners, and you have added to those. You should also know that I have promised Paul a lot of beer to tell everybody what a good egg I am! I hope this idea takes off for you. Cheers again.
    ‘holic.
